You may have heard a rumour that Winter 2016 would be Kathleen's last collection. Well, rest assured there will be a Summer 16 range! This will be in store from late August and for the first time ever also available to buy online from the Kathleen Berney website. We spoke to Kathleen about the last 12 months and the inspiration behind the Summer 16 range

There have been rumours that Winter 16 would be your last full collection? Were these true?

Yes in late 2015 my plan was to focus more on one-off artworks (and on being a grandmother!) However, after being inundated with calls and emails to continue, my plans have changed and yes there is a Summer 16 range (and the Winter 17 range is in development). I am also continuing to find creative ways to combine the joys of being a grandmother with my work! 

 

How are you enjoying the creative process now that you have decided to continue?

I am feeling full of more ideas than ever. I am really focused on both enjoying the creative process and really understanding what our Kathleen Berney customer wants. Our typical customer is a baby boomer (like me)..we want to be stylish, feel good, cover the lumps and bumps..and have some fun!

Your Summer 16 collection will be available online for the first time. Tell us about this

We are excited to be able to offer our collection online for the first time. Many of our customers had been asking us for quite some time. We are continuing to also sell through our wonderful stockists who offer such wonderful service and personal styling advice to their strong loyal customers.

Tell us about the inspiration behind the Summer 16 collection?

I have focused on designing unique pieces that are easy and flattering to wear. I have continued my exploration of textures and prints. I love to explore the use of different fabrics and textures combined together to create a unique piece. 

 

What is your favourite piece from the collection and why?

Personally I always default to wearing neutrals….This love of neutrals is always a challenge as my wonderful customers are always requesting colour! So I will have to admit my personal favourite are the pieces from the Silver and Black collection – I am already wearing and will be wearing a lot over the coming months. I love these pieces worn back with statement jewellery which is another favourite of mine. This Summer 16 top is worn over black narrow pants with our classic black pleated chiffon wrap tied around the waist as an interesting layering piece.
